Blair Rayfield: Sales & Design Consultant

Blair grew up in Cobourg, Ontario - a small lakeside community in South-East Ontario. He graduated from Culinary Studies at the George Brown School of Hospitality in Toronto. After graduating he moved to Edmonton in 1996 to pursue further opportunities in that field.

Blair made the transition to the flooring industry on a referral - and he continues to build strong connections through networking. He is a founding member and Past President of BNI Park Power Connections - which is the World's largest word-of-mouth referral organization. Blair was the recipient oftheir "Giver's Gain" award in 2013 - the regions top award, given annually to the member who best exemplifies the qualities of volunteerism and putting others before themselves. Blair founded and has chaired their Charity Softball Tournament for four years, raising over $10000 for charity. He has also co-chaired the BNI Golf Tournament for two years; serving as the awards ceremony emcee in 2013.

Blair has been in the flooring industry for 18 years - he has experience in project management and estimation, as well as extensive product knowledge. On every project Blair manages he always ensures he performs the in-home measurement to ensure that he has the most accurate representation of the spaces he is covering.

Blair takes the trust customers place in him very seriously. He loves to educate customers to help them find the balance between an attractive price and the perfect product for their situation.

"The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten."
A lot of homeowners don't realize that not all floors perform well in all areas of the home. Blair is able to draw on his expertise to ensure that each selection will provide optimum performance and keep homeowners happy for years to come. Blair is extremely proud that consistently, a large percentage of his new clients come by means of referrals from previous clients and his deep network of business and trade partners. Many of his clients have turned into repeat clients, some three and four times over again!

Blair believes that product selection is a very personal experience; he relishes the opportunity to problem solve - and as the vast majority of his work involves renovations - this is almost always necessary!

Blair loves continuing education; he has attended various courses from the Alberta Floor Covering Association, National Wood Flooring Association, and engages in ongoing supplier product knowledge sessions. He has embarked on several hardwood mill tours that provided him with an in-depth understanding of the manufacturing and finishing of hardwood floors. Over the years, he has been involved with the Edmonton Home Builders Association, Canadian Certificate Interior Decorators Association, and Interior Designers of Alberta. Like all Icon employees, Blair values safety, and is First Aid/CPR certified with CSTS training. In addition, Blair represents Icon Flooring at numerous Chamber of Commerce functions.

In his leisure time, Blair enjoys hockey, golf, and water sports like wake boarding and knee boarding. He manages as well as coaches his son Peyton's minor league hockey and soccer teams. He is an amateur photographer - the photo attached to this blog post is his own. Blair is passionate about volunteering and fundraising, sharing his home with Oil Kings players as a Billet Parent and participating in the Bags of Hope Campaign, which distributes back-packs filled with essential living items to our inner-city homeless community.

Blair enjoys social media - and actively contributes to both the Icon Flooring as well as the BNI Park Power Connections Facebook and Twitter feeds. Connect with him on LinkedIn and Twitter!
